Level 2 Coaching Certificate

Are you looking to become a Level 2 Badminton Coach?

Then look NO further as the WMPC are hosting a UKCC Level 2 Badminton Coaching course at the University of Birmingham.

The course runs over 4 day and will at the end of the course qualify the coach to independently plan, lead and review coaching sessions and develop coaching programmes to support the development of players.

So it you are already a Level 1 coach and your are looking to progress and become a Level 2 then do it in Birmingham at the new Sport and Fitness Centre at the University of Birmingham.

Half-term Badminton Camps – February 2018

KEEP playing badminton over the February 2018 Half-term.

February 2018Just because it is half-term you don’t have to stop playing badminton or training for the sport you love. West Midlands Performance Centre is running what promises (as always) to be another successful badminton camp over the Feburary 2018 half-term.

GETTING EVEN CLOSER –  72 HOURS before the Summer Camp starts.

72 hoursThe suspense is getting to me now. I have to wait the whole weekend before the West Midlands Performance Centre’s Summer Camp starts on  Monday 7th August, 10.00am prompt.

Would be worth arriving a little early so that you can have a wonder around the impressive Sport and Fitness Centre, University of Birmingham. Might inspire you to do a little more fitness……!

Lorraine Cole has written a three week program and is working with the likes of Julia Mann – GB Team and England squad coach, in not only for the Summer camp but to the PC on a permanent basis.

There will be sessions that cover Single, some that cover Doubles and others that cover mixed doubles. Not only the footwork, movement and balance but tactics, positional play and much more.

TWO – Weeks to GO

YES – ONLY TWO weeks left before the Summer Camp starts.

TWOTime is running out  as August 7th is less that TWO weeks away. The first day of the infamous West Midlands Performance Centre Summer Camp for 2017 is getting closer.

Lots going on in August………..!

Not only is there the three week coaching at the summer camp but there is also the TEAM Tournament on August 19th and then the SENIOR Bronze on August 20th giving you a badminton packed weekend. This weekend is where you can (in some cases) put in to practice all the skills and training that you have picked u from the likes of JULIA MANN. Yes, Julia Mann the coach that trained the GB and England players. Bringing all of her knowledge and a different coaching skills to all three week of the Summer Camp.

Help us WELCOME two new coaches ………….

Welcome Fontaine and Harry as new coaches to the Performance Centre.

Coaches - WelcomeTWO new coaches joint the Performance Centre. So please help us give a warm welcome to both Fontaine Chapman and Harry Wright. They are, each in their own right high profile players and are or have been part of the English badminton team, even the NBL (National Badminton League) as some of you may know Fontaine is part of the Birmingham Lions (this years WINNERS) here in Birmingham. They have officially joined the West Midlands Performance Centre as part of the coaching team. Their programme will officially start in September. In the meantime, check out the Summer Camp programme as they may be doing a couple of sessions during the Summer, just to give players a taste of what is to come.

Event for your Diary 2016-2017

2016-2017Players……! The 2016-2017 tournament dates are out.

2016-2017 list of West Midlands Performance Centre tournaments are out.The Performance Centre work hard behind the scenes to provide their players with at least one event they they can enter. Competing in these event provides the players with valuable experience where they can gain knowledge and put into practice what they have spent hours being coached. The 2016-2017 calendar has been agreed with Badminton England (their list will be published soon) but the PC have released their dates HERE. Take a look and get them in your dairy as soon as possible so you don’t miss out on valuable experience.

NOTE: that the Age Group changes starting from 1st July 2016 will apply to all of these event (see Age Group changes HERE).

Summer 2015Summer 2015 badminton training by West Midlands Performance Centre.

Details for the coveted Summer 2015 badminton training camp are almost here. Keep watching THIS space as numbers will be limited. These that attended last year will have first refusal and then on a first come first served basis. Summer 2015 training camp overs a FREE FORZA t-shirt for players who book and confirm a place before the deadline of Friday 17 July 2015. Coaches are writing the programme ready to build up levels of fitness, develop movement, technique and tactics of singles and doubles. Players will improve the skills, strengths, efficiency and power with a view to sharpening up during the summer 2015.

There will be footwork to music, shot skills incorporated into routines and of course match play to develop tactics. Under 11, Raw, Under 13, County, Developing, Emerging, University a and B squad players will be worked hard but fun sessions will mean theyl all enjoy the summer 2015 camp. Most of the benefits will be seen and felt most at the start of the new badminton season.

Birmingham Lions serves to Team Derby at home in the NIA here in Birmingham on Monday 6 October. The NBL (National Badminton League) first match night is fast approaching and Birmingham Lions are hosts to Team Derby. Full details of the fixtures can be found HERE.

Watch NBL live as Sky are covering the match nights and some events can be seen live on one of the SKY sports channels. And/Or watch stream matches on the NBL site with a 24hour delay. More details HERE.

Summer Camps Nearly Full

Almost FULL – Summer Camp sessions .Full

 

With the Summer Camps being a big smash with the participants most of the remaining sessions are Full. The West Midlands PC urge those players who are interested to book ASAP to avoid disappointment. Once the session is full your name will be added to the waiting list.

Players have traveled from as far as Coventry, Leicester, Derby and even Norfolk. After the session the coaches give participants feedback on what areas to work on to help the player improve.
