Birmingham Lions serves to Team Derby at home in the NIA here in Birmingham on Monday 6 October. The NBL (National Badminton League) first match night is fast approaching and Birmingham Lions are hosts to Team Derby. Full details of the fixtures can be found HERE.

Watch NBL live as Sky are covering the match nights and some events can be seen live on one of the SKY sports channels. And/Or watch stream matches on the NBL site with a 24hour delay. More details HERE.

Tournaments – Schedule dates are out

WMPC TournamentsWMPC Tournaments dates are out…..!

All members of the Performance Centre are expected to support our hosted tournaments by entering the relevant event. Details of all the tournaments hosted by the Performance Centre can be found HERE. Head coach Lorraine Cole, recommends all players that are serious about improving their badminton performance enter competitions as often as they can.

The events are open to any badminton player that wants to play competitive badminton and is looking to improve their standard of play. More information about the events can be found on the EVENTS page. All relevant details and entry forms can be found HERE.

Under 15 Bronze Tournament – UPDATE

UpdatedThe Under 15 Bronze Tournament details have been updated to contain the Acceptance Lists for both the BOYS and the GIRLS. The Under 15 Bronze Tournament is this Saturday 12 January and is hosted by the West Midlands Performance Centre. Held at the Doug Ellis Sports Centre, Birmingham City University, B42 2SY. Don’ forget the WMPC (West Midlands Performance Centre) hosts the Under 15 Bronze Tournament on 12 January 2013. It is at The Doug Ellis Sports College, Birmingham City University (Full details HERE).

Your entry needs to be with Irene Williams (details HERE), before the deadline.
The draw will appear online approximately 48 hours prior to the tournament.

West Midlands Performance Centre are hosting an Under 15 Bronze Tournament on 12 January 2013 at The Doug Ellis SC, Birmingham City University (Full details HERE). Please note the DEADLINE is 22 December 2012. Make sure you get your entries in to Irene Williams (details HERE), before the deadline. The draw will appear online approximately 48 hours prior to the tournament.

Teachers – Can you answer this question?

Do you have the next English Badminton Champions in your classroom? Could one of the pupils in your calss be the next Nathan Robertson or Gail Emms? Then please encourage them to compete in the Unipart Schools Tournament that the West Midlands Performance Centre is hosting at the NIA, Birmingham, on Sunday 20 May all day in the Community Halls. The competition is about children trying badminton as a new sport, a sport they play in the garden or play during lessons at school and taking it further. For more information and entry forms click HERE.

Unipart and FZ Forza together sponsor Schools Tournament in Birmingham

Together Unipart and Forza sponsor a series of schools tournament on on Sunday 20 May 2012 here in Birmingham it comes tot he NIA.

The tournaments are aimed at players with little experience of playing the game of badminton and have yet to represent their county.

CHILDREN’S BADMINTON After Easter – Interested?

ONE or TWO days of badminton for your children. Let them play till there hearts content. With fun games, competitions, shot and footwork coaching and of course lots of ‘normal’ games. For more details click HERE.

If your children enjoy sport them let them have a taste of badminton and see how they get on. Also for those children who already play and just want to play more.

BISI Festival Winners – Win badminton coaching prize.

West Midlands Performance Centre in conjunction with Badminton England organised a BISI festival in Birmingham to coincide with the Yonex All England Championships 2012. The participating school visited the NIA to spectate. The went to the Doug Ellis Sports Centre where 9 schools took part in the festival. The team names consisted of ‘players names’ seeing ‘Donna Kellogg’ George Dixon International School, triumph with a convincing 1518 points. Second place saw a close battle between ‘Jenny Wallwork’ Ninestiles School and ‘Nathan Robertson’ Smiths Wood College with only 15 points difference. See HERE for full details. George Dixon has won a Badminton Coaching session for the school as the prize. This will be delivered by Stephanie Cartwright-Randle – Development Officer for the PC.

And the winners are ……….?

The boys singles ran very smoothly, despite several contestants not turning up on the day. With the fantastic volunteers organising the event, time was made up. The boys singles semi-finals produced two worthy finalists. Rob Lowes took an early lead, but Matthew Smith clawed an important 3 points back to give 20-20. The next few rallies were nail-bitingly tease for spectators. Rob Lowes came up thrumps with a 26-24 victory.
